Colours, Markings & Clearance
What drives the price difference between hides.
How we price a hide
Three things set the price: size, colour and country of origin. The widest gap is between Brazilian and European hides. After that it comes down to colour, because some colours are simply rarer than others and demand follows.
One thing worth being clear about: colour has no bearing on quality. A common colour is not a lesser hide, it is a more available one. Buy the colour you actually want.
Are the white hides really white?
Not bright white, no. Our hides are undyed, and true solid white is genuinely rare in nature. What you will find is a range from off-white through cream and ivory to champagne, each slightly deeper than the last.
Our whitest hides are labelled as white and priced a little higher, purely because of how hard they are to source. If you are chasing a specific shade, call us and we will find the closest match we have.
Branded hides and the Natural Collection
Some hides carry a branding mark applied during the animal's life. We group these as our Natural Collection and treat the mark as a piece of provenance rather than a flaw. Branding is always noted in the description and visible in the photos, though it is often subtler than you would expect against the hide's own pattern.
Why clearance hides cost less
Clearance hides carry more visible natural character: scars, bald patches, irregular outlines. They come from the same tanneries, through the same process, at the same quality as the rest of our Brazilian stock, and those markings do not affect durability or lifespan.
Every rug is photographed so you can see exactly what the markings are before you commit. Same hide, more character, better price.
